Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before you start building your campaign — pricing, privacy, supported systems, and sharing.

How much does The Spider's Web cost?
The core app is free and always will be: unlimited campaigns, the NPC relationship mapper, all four GM tools (dice roller, generators, initiative tracker, session planner), templates, and player share links. Pro is an optional $5/month subscription that adds character sheets with portraits, PDF export, the session journal and quest tracker, custom tag colors, and unlimited saved encounters and sessions.
Is my campaign data private? Does it work offline?
Yes to both. Everything is stored in your own browser via localStorage — nothing is uploaded by default, and the app works with no internet connection and no account. If you choose to sign in (an optional feature), your campaigns sync to a private, owner-only cloud space so you can use multiple devices; you can ignore that entirely and stay fully local.
Does it only work for D&D?
No — it's deliberately system-agnostic. The relationship mapper, generators, dice roller, initiative tracker, and session planner track characters, scenes, and connections rather than any one rules set, so they fit D&D 5e, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Blades in the Dark, PbtA games, OSR retroclones, and homebrew settings equally well.
Can I share my map with players without revealing secrets?
Yes. Player share links generate a read-only copy of your map with hidden nodes, hidden relationships, GM notes, relationship history, and portraits stripped out. The whole map is encoded in the link so nothing is uploaded; signed-in users can also create short, fixed-length links.
How do I back up or move a campaign?
Every campaign can be exported to a JSON file and re-imported on any device or browser. Exports include your nodes, relationships, journal, quests, encounters, and session plans. Signing in additionally keeps everything synced automatically.
Do I need to install anything?
No. The Spider's Web runs entirely in your web browser on desktop or tablet — there's nothing to download and no account required to start.
